Psychological Assessments are a key part of our clinic's approach, offering a comprehensive understanding of an individual's mental health, cognitive profile and neurodiversity through a detailed evaluation. These assessments provide valuable insights that guide personalised treatment plans and support holistic well-being.

At Inner Light Allied Health, we offer comprehensive psychological assessments designed to identify and understand neurodevelopmental differences such as Autism, PDA, OCD, ADHD, and Learning difference (including dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, and intellectual disability). These assessments are conducted in a warm, friendly, and relaxed environment where our clients feel supported and respected throughout the process. Our approach is tailored uniquely to each individual, focusing on identifying strengths and areas for support, aiding in developing effective strategies for managing and embracing these differences.

Intake Session

The initial intake session is where you meet your psychologist for the first time to discuss your concerns, questions, and experiences. The intake is generally a parent-only session if the assessment is for someone younger than 18. However, each young person is welcome to join to discuss the process and ask questions. This session is where the assessment process is discussed further, and goals for the assessment are made collaboratively in this session – we call this the referral question. Shortly after this meeting, forms are sent via email. These forms are asked to be completed online by the individual, an interpreter (someone who shares a close relationship with that person), their teacher or parents.

Assessment Sessions

Assessment sessions are generally face-to-face and consist of either play sessions, parent sessions, or the administration of formalised assessment tools (such as a structured interview or cognitive or academic assessment). However, the number of required assessment sessions may vary, depending on the referral question or the concerns or questions raised during the intake session. The number of assessment sessions can generally be between 1 and 4. The specific number of assessment sessions required is nominated during the intake session.

Psychological Report

The psychological report is a formal document that may vary in length. The required report will be brief, standard or comprehensive, depending on the referral question.

Feedback Session

Depending on each individual's preference, this session is either face-to-face or via telehealth. The report is presented in the feedback session, and the results are discussed in detail. In addition, this session will discuss the referral question and findings. An appointment will be made for a feedback session six weeks following the return of the final form. Additionally, following full payment, a PDF version of the report will be emailed.

Types of assessment reports

Brief Psychological Report

The brief psychological report generally consists of only one cognitive, academic or social-emotional measure. The brief assessment package may be appropriate when there is a pre-existing diagnosis or a full comprehensive report is not required.

Standard Psychological Report

The Standard report is required when the assessment requires a combination of cognitive, academic or social-emotional measures. For example, this package may be appropriate for evaluation for Autism, Specific Learning Disorders, Intellectual Disabilities or Trauma.

Comprehensive Report

The comprehensive report is required when the assessment requires a combination of 3 or more cognitive, academic or social-emotional measures. For example, this package may be appropriate for the evaluation of Autism and Specific Learning Disorders.
